About the Author
David Emeott is an award-winning track and field coach and Co-Athletic Director at East Kentwood High School in Michigan, where he has built one of the state’s most successful and respected athletic programs. Since taking over the track and field program in 2004, his teams have earned eight MHSAA Division 1 state championships, including a dominant stretch of three consecutive titles from 2009 to 2011.
A former collegiate pole vaulter at Saginaw Valley State University, David began his coaching career in 1995 and has since become widely recognized for his ability to develop both athletic and personal excellence. His accolades include being named Michigan Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and MHSCA Track & Field Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, East Kentwood athletes have set state records and achieved national-level performances.
Beyond coaching, David serves as a mentor to student-athletes across all sports through the Athletic Leadership Council—a program he leads that selects athletes nominated by their coaches to develop leadership, communication, and team-building skills. This initiative reflects his broader philosophy that athletics are a platform for lifelong growth, a theme at the heart of his book, Beyond the Finish Line.
